How To Protect Your Car In A Hurricane

At Advantage Honda, we know one thing for sure – your car is precious. Protecting it and ensuring it’s in a good condition at all times is important. Which is why you might go through the pains of service to give it the best treatment possible. But there are times when a natural disaster strikes – like a hurricane for instance – and you are at a loss. If you live in a hurricane zone, knowing how to protect your car in a hurricane well before it strikes will ensure the least possible damages.

Here are some quick tips by Advantage Honda on how to protect your car in a hurricane.
1. Stay informed
The first step is to stay informed of any hurricane heading your way as well as its progress. Follow recommendations of federal and local authorities to stay safe.
2. Take pictures
You must have proof of your car’s condition before and after a hurricane hits – mainly for insurance purposes. Take pictures of both the interior as well as the exterior of the car – before and after the hurricane
3.Store important car papers
Have a copy of your car’s registration papers and insurance documents made. Store them in a dry place after first placing them inside a plastic bag. Make additional copies for all licensed drivers in your family so that if you're separated from your family or car, someone will be able to operate your vehicle.
4. Make an additional set of your car key or fob
There are chances that your car key/fob will get damaged during a hurricane. Make a couple of replicas of your car key/fob and place them in a waterproof box or plastic cover where they will be safe.
5. Fill up on gas and check all fluids
Fill up your car’s tank before a hurricane strikes your locality. A full tank will ensure you have fuel to get from one place to another if the need arises. Also, there is a possibility that fuel may not be available at gas stations immediately after a hurricane. The same principle applies to all other fluids in your car. Finally, park in a safe place and drive only if it is necessary.
